Lectrosonics SMV Belt-Pack Transmitter
The Lectrosonics SMV belt-pack transmitter runs on a single AA battery and switches between 50, 100, and 250 mW.
The 250 mW setting extends range and helps suppress interference, while the lower settings stretch battery life, and 50 mW suits theatrical systems designed for lower power. One lithium AA runs it for about 3 hours at 250 mW, 5.5 hours at 100 mW, or 7.25 hours at 50 mW.
Frequency Band
Trew Audio offers the SMV in Block 21 (537.600 to 563.175 MHz), with frequencies selectable in 25 or 100 kHz steps across the block.
Input and Setup
The TA5M input uses Lectrosonics servo bias circuitry for electret lavaliers, dynamic mics, and line-level sources. A DSP-controlled analog limiter ahead of the converter gives more than 30 dB of overload protection, recovering fast from brief transients and slowly from sustained levels. The low-cut sets from 35 to 150 Hz, and the LectroRM phone app adjusts frequency and level with audible tones, or puts the transmitter to sleep while it is hidden in costuming.
Build and RF
A circulator/isolator in the output stage lets RF pass to the antenna and blocks signals coming back, which cuts intermodulation when several transmitters work a few feet apart. The machined aluminum housing is splash-proof, with a super-hard non-corrosive finish, water-resistant membrane switches, and an LCD with lockout. Digital Hybrid Wireless sends 24-bit digital audio over an analog FM link, with no compandor and an analog RF footprint that coordinates easily with analog systems.
