JK Audio RemoteMix 4 Four-Channel Broadcast Field Mixer
The JK Audio RemoteMix 4 combines a four-channel field mixer and headphone amplifier with a phone line hybrid, a PBX handset interface, and wired and Bluetooth cell phone interfaces.
The unit is smaller than a lunch box. Its sections are designed to work together, so a remote goes up without an engineer or a lot of patch cables. For TV, four IFB headphone feeds let a crew send and receive interview audio and pull IFB from any business phone system or a cell phone. For radio, it calls into a studio talk show hybrid over the phone line, or works as the front-end mixer for a POTS, ISDN, IP, or laptop codec.
The four XLR mic inputs have individually switchable 48 V phantom power and a mic/line pad switch. Bass boost adds low end before the signal goes down the phone line. A soft limiter keeps the phone interfaces from overdriving, while the XLR mix output stays pre-limiter and full range. Each 1/4 in headphone output has its own level control and source selector, for the clean mix alone or the communication return plus the mix. A line-level cue input brings a codec’s return to the headphones.
Bluetooth first tries a hands-free connection to a cell phone, and otherwise connects to a notebook or other device in wireless headphone mode, a full-bandwidth stereo link. The wired interface plugs into the 3.5 mm headset jack of a phone or notebook. The handset interface takes the coiled cord of an ISDN, PBX, or VoIP phone, with a selector for electret, carbon, and dynamic handsets. The phone line hybrid has a DTMF keypad and a redial button. 3.5 mm send and receive jacks let you record the show or mix in a playback device.
Two 9 V batteries sit in separate compartments for hot swapping, and one or two will run it. The included 100 to 240 VAC desktop supply runs the unit while it is providing power, and the batteries cut in if the power goes out. The phantom generator runs only when a rear panel 48 V switch is on, and low-noise, low-power circuits stretch battery life.
