Sound Devices Astral ARX16 Digital Wireless Receiver
The Sound Devices Astral ARX16 is a half-rack digital wireless receiver with eight true-diversity channels, expandable to 12 or 16 by software license.
It tunes from 169 to 1525 MHz, sends its audio over Dante, analog, or AES, and works in a rack, in a bag, or docked to an 8-Series mixer-recorder.
Frequency Bands
SpectraBand tuning covers that whole range in one unit, so you can find open spectrum away from the crowded UHF TV band. RF SAW filters reject interference from nearby IFB and camera hop transmitters.
NexLink Remote Control
NexLink, Sound Devices’ long-range 2.4 GHz control link, lets the ARX16 control Astral TX, HH, and Mini transmitters and power them down remotely to save battery. AutoAssign scans the band, picks clean frequencies, and pushes them to the linked transmitters, and a BNC timecode input syncs them over NexLink. With GainForward, transmitter gain, low-cut, and limiter are set at the receiver or the mixer.
Outputs and Networking
Two DB-25 connectors carry 16 channels of mic, line, or AES output, and Dante sends the receiver audio over the network. Sixteen channels of Dante can also come back out of the DB-25s as analog or AES, so the mixer can send IFB or a voice-of-god feed to set. A built-in web app controls the receiver from any browser, and an SFP slot adds optical fiber networking.
Power and Docking
The ARX16 runs on PoE+, a DC input, an 8-Series mixer-recorder, or AC mains with an optional adapter. With an A20-QuickDock, it docks to an 833, 888, or Scorpio in seconds with no tools, and power, audio, and GainForward pass between them with no cables.
