Rycote HC-15 Short Shotgun Microphone

The Rycote HC-15 is a hypercardioid short shotgun microphone for film, television, news, broadcast, sound design, and field recording.

The HC-15 pairs a moderately directional pickup with very low self-noise for a shotgun of its size. It suits close-up dialogue booming in tight shots, news gathering on camera, mono field recording, and sound effects work, where the mic can work close to the source. An individually tuned back electret capsule feeds a compact, very low-noise preamp that draws little power.

Fine-tuned mechanical RF shielding guards against interference. The gold-plated Neutrik XLR connector carries P48 phantom power, and the mic also runs from 24 V, with a lower maximum SPL. The preamp body is non-corrosive machined brass and the capsule and interference tube are machined aluminum. Rycote designs and makes the HC-15 at its UK factory.
