Rycote Classic-Softie Slip-On Windshield

The Rycote Classic-Softie is a slip-on windshield for shotgun microphones, made of open-cell acoustic foam with an integral synthetic fur cover and sized for most popular shotguns.

Both the foam and the fur are made for the job, so the Softie cuts wind noise by up to 25 dB without dulling the high frequencies. The thin-walled cavity design keeps it acoustically transparent, and the foam resists UV and moisture damage for a long working life.

It suits news (ENG), documentary, and location recording, on a boom pole or handheld. Each Softie is hand-assembled in the UK. Rycote also makes a short-fur version for a lower profile on camera.

Choosing a Size

Each size is named for its internal length and the microphone diameter it fits. Choose the length that covers your mic’s interference tube slots: the 18 cm Softie fits mics whose slots end no more than 18 cm from the tip.

The numbers in parentheses give the diameter range in millimeters, so 19/22 fits mics 19 to 22 mm across and 24/25 fits mics 24 to 25 mm across. The table below lists example microphones for many sizes.
