Lectrosonics S1 Supercardioid Shotgun Microphone
The Lectrosonics S1 brings a supercardioid shotgun pattern and an RF-biased true condenser capsule to production sound, from feature films and scripted TV to documentaries and news.
RF biasing gives the capsule an inherent resistance to humidity and moisture, so it holds up on exterior shoots in harsh conditions. The line tube is radially symmetrical, so the polar pattern stays tight and consistent however the mic sits in its suspension. Off-axis rejection is uniform, with little coloration and minimal lobing.
The response is broadly flat with a slight lift in the upper frequencies for clear dialogue. Self-noise is 10 dB(A), and the mic handles up to 130 dB SPL. It draws under 2 mA from standard 48 V phantom power, which suits battery-powered mobile rigs.
The body is aircraft aluminum alloy with a hard-wearing blue anodized finish, 8.4 in (215 mm) long and 2.7 oz (78 g), light enough for booming on long poles. Its 0.75 in (19 mm) diameter fits a wide range of suspensions and mounts. The S1 is assembled at Lectrosonics headquarters in Rio Rancho, New Mexico.
