Lectrosonics DSSM Miniature Water-Resistant Digital Transmitter
Rated IP57, the Lectrosonics DSSM miniature water-resistant digital transmitter hides in costuming for theater, TV, film, and broadcast work.
It is the fully digital successor to the SSM. IP57 means it is protected against dust and survives immersion to 1 meter for more than 30 minutes, and its LB-50 battery still swaps out quickly.
Frequency Bands
Trew Audio carries three versions: A1B1 (470.100 to 607.950 MHz), B1C1 (537.600 to 607.950, 614.050 to 615.950, and 653.050 to 662.950 MHz), and 941 (941.600 to 959.750 MHz, in three segments). Frequencies step in 25 kHz increments, for more than 6000 in all, and the B1C1 version is limited to 20 mW in its two upper segments.
Power and Charging
RF power is 10, 25, or 50 mW in D2 mode, and the high-density (HDM) mode runs at 4 mW to fit the most channels into limited spectrum. The LB-50 runs it for 4.5 hours at 50 mW and up to 6.75 hours in HDM mode. The optional CHSDSSM dock charges four DSSMs or LB-50 batteries at a time, and docks chain together to charge 16.
Input and Controls
The locking subminiature 3-pin input, with a threaded collar, takes mic or line signals, and gain runs from -7 to +44 dB in 1 dB steps. The preamp’s limiter handles peaks more than 30 dB over full modulation. An OLED display and membrane switches reach every setting, and the IR port next to the antenna transfers frequency, mode, and encryption keys.
Build
The housing is machined aluminum alloy with a hard, conductive electroless nickel finish (ebENi), and a repositionable wire belt clip points the antenna up or down. It is slightly larger and heavier than the SSM, with more rounded corners, and a USB connector inside the battery compartment takes firmware updates.
Compatibility
Audio is encrypted with AES 256 in CTR mode, with four key policies, and the DSSM works with current Lectrosonics digital receivers, including the DSQD, DCR822, DSR, DSR4, M2Ra, and DCHR.
