Lectrosonics L1 Sub-Miniature Lavalier Microphone

Lectrosonics L1 — Sub-miniature lavalier microphone with silicon MEMS diaphragm. The L1 delivers an EIN of 11 dB(A) and an 83 dB signal-to-noise ratio, which is the lowest self-noise specification of any professional sub-miniature lavalier currently available. Ideal for production dialogue, especially in quieter scenes or critical single-camera drama work.

The L1 uses a Sonaura MEMS silicon diaphragm (manufactured by Infineon), rather than the FET-based condenser design found in traditional lavalier microphones. Silicon semiconductor fabrication delivers unit-to-unit matching within 0.5 dB in both sensitivity and frequency response across the full production run. This means more consistent recordings and less fuss in post.

The L1 also features advanced moisture resistance. The capsule’s silicon diaphragm is inherently hydrophobic, and combined with a specialized internal coating and laser-drilled hydrostatic pressure-sealing cap ports, the L1 can operate when fully submerged. Paired with the Lectrosonics DSSM transmitter (IP57-rated), the complete assembly is waterproof.

When used with the DSSM, the L1 also gains a switchable sensitivity mode that pushes max SPL handling up to 135 dB, useful for high-output sources like opera, live music, or loud stage environments. The L1 lav mic has a Kevlar-reinforced cable, and a color ID ring system allows for rapid identification across a multi-mic set. Interchangeable acoustic caps for flat or elevated high-frequency response are included.
