Lectrosonics S1 Shotgun Microphone
Lectrosonics S1 — Supercardioid lightweight short shotgun designed from the ground up for location sound, film and TV production, sports broadcast, and ENG. Machined from aircraft-grade aluminum and finished in a distinctive blue anodized coating, the S1’s body is 8.4″ (21.336 cm) in length and weighs a mere 0.17 lbs (77 g). Its .75″ diameter fits standard suspension mounts and blimps, without need of adapters. the S1 is assembled at the Lectrosonics facility in Rio Rancho, New Mexico.
The S1’s capsule is a true condenser with RF biasing, which ideal for location recording due to the inherent resistance to humidity. Where conventional DC-biased capsules can be susceptible to moisture-related problems in the field, an RF-biased capsule handles environmental stress without the performance degradation that can ruin an exterior shoot.
The line tube of the S1 uses full radial symmetry, meaning consistent polar pattern and off-axis rejection, regardless of how the mic is oriented inside a suspension. This is great for boom ops, who need reliable performance across the range of positions a shoot demands. With a frequency response that’s broadly flat with a slight presence lift in the upper frequencies, the S1 is well suited for dialogue capture. Self-noise is 10 dB(A), maximum SPL is 130 dB, and current draw is under 2 mA from standard 48V phantom power (a low-draw design well-suited to battery-powered mobile rigs).
