JK Audio THAT-1 Telephone Handset Audio Tap
The JK Audio THAT-1 taps a telephone between its base and handset, giving RCA access to the audio going in and out of a call.
Radio stations use it to record and play sound bites, and computer and telephone companies use it to demonstrate voice services through a powered speaker.
Unplug the handset’s coiled cord from the telephone base, plug it into the THAT-1, and connect the THAT-1 back to the phone with the supplied cable. The RCA output carries both sides of the conversation plus the keypad tones, and a volume control sets the level for a recorder or powered speaker. A gray pushbutton chooses what goes into the call: out for talking on the handset, in for sending audio from the RCA input.
The receive side works with any telephone, while sending audio into the phone needs a handset with an electret microphone. For phones with a round mouthpiece, or for use across many phone types, the THAT-2 adds a handset type switch. The THAT-1 does not work with cordless or cell phones, or with handsets that have a built-in keypad. It needs no batteries or AC power. The connection is isolated to 1500 volts.
