DPA 4488 CORE Directional Headset Microphone
The DPA 4488 CORE puts DPA’s 5 mm cardioid capsule on their Red Dot award-winning headset, making a directional headset microphone for theater, broadcast, houses of worship, and conferences.
It has an open, natural sound for speech and singing, and it rejects off-axis sound well even at high SPL, which keeps distant sources, background noise, and feedback down. The bass is linear at 2 to 3 cm (1 in) from the mouth and rolls off with distance, adding to that rejection.
The Headset
The one-size frame is stainless steel with a PVD coating that tolerates heat and resists impact and abrasion, and it resizes quickly. A 3-point grip above, below, and behind the ear keeps it secure and comfortable over long periods. The boom extends, pivots up and down below the ear, locks in place, and moves to either side. A service connector lets the boom and cable be replaced separately.
Cable and Connectors
A 90° cable guide at the back of the frame slides side to side, keeping the cable out of camera view and away from boom movement. The 1.6 mm Kevlar-core cable does not tangle. The mic connects to wireless systems through DPA’s MicroDot adapters or comes hardwired with a 3-pin LEMO, TA4F, or Mini-Jack connector. It is IP58 certified. On the brown and beige versions, the capsule matches the color of the boom.
