Bubblebee Industries The Spacer Ball
The 100 mm Bubblebee Industries Spacer Ball is a spherical windshield for boom mics with a longer body or a preamp, and its larger volume stands up to stronger wind.
The 100 mm ball suits microphones such as the DPA 4011, 4015, 4018A, and 4018B and the Sennheiser MKH 50, indoors and outdoors. For smaller compact condensers on a light suspension, the 65 mm Spacer Ball keeps the weight down.
It uses the materials of Bubblebee’s Spacer Bubble: a noise-free mesh outside, a tuned open-foam core, and a precision-made rubber base that grips the microphone. On its own, the mesh ball adds very little coloration and handles air-conditioning drafts, handling noise, and, helped by its round shape, the swoosh of quick boom swings. When the wind picks up, the long-haired fur cover slips over it, and its multi-pile, high-density fiber keeps the sound clear.
Three mount sizes fit more than 50 microphones: Small for bodies of 19 to 20 mm, Medium for 21 to 22 mm, and Large for 24 to 26 mm. The Sizing tab lists the microphones each mount fits. Each Spacer Ball comes with its fur cover and a mesh storage bag.
