Ambient LockitSlate Take 2 Timecode Slate

Successor to the original LockitSlate in the same form factor, the Ambient LockitSlate Take 2 is a timecode slate with an adaptive LED display.

Because the construction and dimensions are unchanged, existing accessories and custom faceplates still fit. The menu runs on an OLED display with the same three buttons as the Lockit and NanoLockit.

Display

Once its brightness is set by hand, the LED timecode display adjusts to changing light. On a clap it shows the clapped timecode and userbits and can then return to running timecode, with the content and timing set in the menu. A tilt sensor flips the display for end slates, and a lip seal around the display improves its resistance to humidity.

Timecode and Sync

The slate generates its own timecode with less than one frame of drift a day (about 0.1 ppm), and zero drift within the ACN, where it also sends out each clap time. In TX Mode it follows external LTC or MIDI timecode and passes it to the other Lockits, and an adjustable offset covers cameras that lag. Connected to a computer over USB-C, it converts LTC to MIDI timecode.

Power and Build

The slate runs on four AA cells and is optimized for NiMH. With 2500 mAh cells it runs about 17 hours at default brightness, and USB-C takes external power. A backup holds timecode for more than 10 minutes after power loss. The housing is machined, pearl-blasted, anodized aluminum, and the display module comes off. The LS-HG1 handle has a fold-out stand and a 3/8 in thread underneath.
