Sound Devices has released a firmware update (v2.00) for their flagship field production mixer, the 664. Version 2.00 opens up the mixer’s connections to accommodate 6 additional inputs by reappropriating the TA3 direct output jacks. This allows your 664 to extend into 12-channel / 16 track mode without the use of a CL-6 Input Controller. The option is easily selectable and reversible via the Input menu. Controls for high-pass filter, trim, level, and routing on channels 7-12 can easily be manipulated within their individual software menus. To encourage further hands-on control, Sound Devices has dramatically reduced the retail price of the CL-6 to $1185 USD.
In order to support the expanded inputs, version 2.00 adds the Meter Views menu – enabling 3 user-configurable LCD metering groups. With Meter Views in use, the front-panel Meter button will toggle between your 3 screen configurations. You can even turn off individual Meter Views, easily disabling screens that don’t apply to your current workflow. Wide Meter View options are also available, allowing you to better monitor the 664’s main (LR) outputs.
The update also allows the PFL’s to monitor ISO routing in either pre-fader or post-fader mode, which is individually selectable per channel.
This firmware update can be downloaded on the Sound Devices website, where they also provide a brief video demonstrating the new menus and options. If you have any further questions, don’t hesitate to contact a member of the Trew Audio sales staff.
