Zaxcom RX-4 MRX Module Interface

The Zaxcom RX-4, an MRX module interface, turns an MRX414 or MRX214 into a stand-alone portable receiver.

With an MRX414 it receives four channels from up to four transmitters, and with an MRX214 up to four channels from two. The module can move into a Nova or an RX-12 later, which makes the RX-4 an affordable way into Zaxcom Digital Recording Wireless.

Design and Connections

Two OLED displays show data for up to four transmitters, and four tricolor LEDs show each channel’s decode status. The audio and power connectors sit right behind the control panel, so cables attach without unpacking the bag.

Two TA5 outputs carry two AES3 pairs or four balanced line-level analog channels, and power comes in on a 4-pin Hirose. The wiring matches the rest of the Zaxcom receiver line.

RF Performance

A dual-track tuned front-end filter with a 44 MHz window and an internal passive filter keep out walkie-talkies and phones, so the RX-4 cannot be overloaded. It scans the full range and re-tunes all four receivers at once within that window.

Versions and Power

The RX-4L covers blocks 20 to 23 (512 to 614 MHz) and the RX-4H blocks 23 to 26 (598 to 698 MHz). The RX-4 draws only 30 mA at 12 V DC and adds no heat.
