Sound Devices MM-1 Portable Mic Preamp with Headphone Monitor
The Sound Devices MM-1 is a portable, single-channel microphone preamp with a headphone monitor, powered by two AA batteries or an external 5 to 17 VDC supply.
Gain runs up to 66 dB in eleven steps, and its transformer-balanced input and output and bipolar ±15 V internal supply keep it low-noise and low-distortion at every switch position.
Limiter, Filter, and Powering
A dual-stage limiter built on dual opto-isolators makes the preamp very hard to clip, and the high-pass filter rolls off at 80 or 160 Hz. The input supplies 48 V or 12 V phantom power or 12 V T-power, and a high-current driver feeds the line output.
Headphone Monitoring
The headphone output carries the microphone, a separate line-level monitor input on a 1/4 in TRS jack, or a mix of the two. One control sets the monitor input level and another sets the overall headphone level. The monitor input suits a communications channel or a mix-minus feed heard alongside the mic, and DIP switches set a split-ear mode.
Build
It has an aluminum chassis with oversized end panels, machined knobs, panel-mounted connectors, and a belt clip.
