Sound Devices MixPre-6 II Multitrack Recorder and USB Audio Interface
The Sound Devices MixPre-6 II records eight tracks at up to 32-bit float and 192 kHz from four Kashmir mic preamps, and works as an 8-in, 4-out USB audio interface.
It is small and light enough for a bag, a camera rig, or a desk, so it serves field recording and film sound as readily as podcasts, voiceovers, and music.
Recording
The four Kashmir preamps have adjustable limiters, and the converters reach 142 dB of dynamic range. A built-in 6 × 2 mixer sets each ISO’s gain, pan, low-cut, and phase. The MixPre-6 II records to an SD card and backs up to a USB thumb drive, and a 10-second pre-roll buffer catches the start of a take. Basic mode keeps setup simple.
Timecode and Sync
An internal LTC timecode generator feeds the camera through the stereo output, timecode comes in on Aux In or HDMI, and HDMI can start and stop recording from a camera.
Power and Control
Power it from a computer over USB-C, from four AA batteries in the included MX-4AA sled, from Sony L-mount batteries with an optional sled, or from the included MX-PSU supply. The Wingman app controls it over Bluetooth, and USB-A accepts control surfaces, keyboards, and thumb drives.
Plugins
Optional plugins add NoiseAssist noise suppression, MixAssist automixing, the Musician mode for songwriting, and Ambisonics recording.
