Sennheiser MKH 8018 Stereo Shotgun Condenser Microphone
The Sennheiser MKH 8018 is a stereo shotgun with three switchable stereo modes, M-S, narrow XY, and wide XY, all in one camera-friendly RF condenser body.
In M-S mode it sends separate mid and side signals, so you set the width of the image later on a mixer or in post. The two XY modes are matrixed inside the mic and give left and right stereo with no external matrix. Narrow XY favors the mid signal for more directionality, and wide XY lifts the side signal for more ambience.
Built for the Field
A switchable low-cut filter (−3 dB at 70 Hz) tames wind and handling noise, and a −10 dB pad guards against overload. The mic shares the sound of the other MKH 8000 models, so it cuts well with them. Its metal housing resists moisture in hot, cold, and humid conditions, and its Nextel finish does not reflect light.
Connection
Unlike the modular MKH 8000 mics, the 8018 has a fixed XLR-5M output and runs on P48 phantom power. It ships with an MZQ 100 clip, an MZW 8018 foam windshield, an MZR 8000 adapter ring for clips and camera mounts, and a threaded transport tube.
