Sanken CS-2 Mono Shotgun Microphone

The Sanken CS-2 is a long-reach mono shotgun microphone that fits a 120 mm acoustic tube into a standard 250 mm body, 19 mm in diameter.

Behind the tube sits Sanken’s own rectangular capsule, whose shape gives the diaphragm a larger surface area. Together they give the CS-2 sharp directivity and long reach, with a tone that stays consistent through the day as conditions change.

It suits outdoor location sound, interviews, sports, drama, and variety shows. Under a windscreen or windjammer, a high boost switch adds 3 dB at 8 kHz to make up for the high frequencies the wind protection takes away.

The CS-2 is a DC biased condenser with 15 dB-A self-noise and a 130 dB SPL maximum. At 110 g it is light enough for long days on a boom pole, and it runs on 48 V phantom power through an XLR-3M connector.
