Rycote HC-35 Shotgun Microphone

Made for sports broadcast and location recording, the Rycote HC-35 is a hypercardioid long shotgun microphone for wide-angle shots, where strong rejection of loud off-axis noise is vital to clean sound.

Its interference tube is longer than those of its siblings, the HC-15 and HC-22, giving a highly directional pattern with better off-axis rejection. It shares their components and Rycote’s low-self-noise capsule, so it matches their tone and cuts together cleanly with them.

It is light for its length, so it is easy to aim on a boom inside a windshield or Classic-Softie.

Design

An individually fine-tuned, broadcast-quality back electret capsule feeds a compact, ultra-low-noise preamp in non-corrosive machined brass. The preamp has active in-line RF filtering and mechanical RF shielding, and the shielding is tested against digital wireless systems and walkie-talkies.

The interference tube is machined aluminum with a non-reflective finish, and the connector is a gold-plated Neutrik XLR.

Good to Know

The HC-35 runs on phantom power from 24 to 48 V, and its maximum SPL is lower at 24 V.
