Rycote CA-08 Cardioid Mic + Nano Shield Kit NS1-BA Bundle

The Rycote CA-08 bundle pairs Rycote’s compact cardioid pencil microphone with the Nano-Shield Kit NS1-BA windshield and suspension system. The Nano Shield’s Advanced Lyre mounts are softer than standard Lyres to suit light microphones, so they isolate the CA-08 from handling noise without a full-length blimp’s size and weight. Mic, suspension, and wind protection go onto the boom as one low-profile package for dialog, effects, and ambience recording on location.

The CA-08 is a professional pencil condenser with a cardioid pickup pattern that gives slight directionality while keeping a wider, more natural field than a supercardioid. Its frequency range is 45 Hz to 20 kHz. Response is virtually flat from 70 Hz up and rolls off gradually below 60 Hz. An individually fine-tuned back electret capsule in a machined aluminum body feeds a low-noise machined brass preamp, for 13 dB-A self-noise and up to 133 dB SPL. Fine-tuned mechanical RF shielding guards against interference from digital wireless systems and walkie-talkies. The 69 g mic runs on 24 to 48 V phantom power, sounds consistent with the rest of Rycote’s pencil range, and ships with a hard case, mic clamp, and foam windscreen.

The Nano Shield Kit NS1-BA is sized for microphones up to 122 mm long, which covers Rycote’s 8 cm pencil mics. It is roughly 30% lighter than Rycote’s Modular Windshield kits and more acoustically transparent, with large hexagonal pockets for less high-frequency loss and an oval basket with non-parallel sides for less internal resonance. The two basket halves lock together with magnets and sliders. Other basket sizes are available, so the kit can fit other microphones later. The mounting bar and swivel arm adjust by thumbwheel with no tools, and the kit works with Rycote’s PCS quick release. The low-profile XLR cable carries an RF filter and a switchable 80 Hz low-cut, while a 360-degree reversible XLR holder points outward for a wireless transmitter or inward for a direct cable run. A Windjammer and protective case complete the kit.
