Sennheiser MKH 416 + Rycote Windshield Kit 416 Bundle — The Sennheiser MKH 416 short shotgun paired with the Rycote windshield kit designed around it. Rycote sized the 14.5-inch basket to the 416’s 250 mm body and fitted a Lyre suspension and short, RF-shielded XLR connector matched to it, so the mic drops in and goes straight onto the boom. The result is a complete, compact exterior dialog rig built on the mic that has been a location and broadcast standard for decades.

The Sennheiser MKH 416 is a compact pressure-gradient microphone with a short interference tube and an RF condenser design that makes it highly resistant to humidity. Its supercardioid and lobar pattern delivers high directivity, strong consonant articulation, and feedback rejection for difficult exterior filming and news gathering conditions. Key specifications are a 40 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response, 25 mV/Pa sensitivity, 13 dB-A self-noise, and 130 dB SPL maximum. The 19 x 250 mm body weighs 175 g, runs on 48 V phantom power, and is supplied with a foam windscreen and mic clamp.

The Rycote Windshield Kit 416 combines patented Lyre suspension with soft-grip 72-Shore Lyres, the broadcast-standard Rycote basket windshield, and a premium shortie XLR connector taken from Rycote’s Cyclone range, with Mogami cable, Neutrik gold-pin connectors, and a built-in RF shield. An offset XLR holder on the outside of the shield keeps the cable tail secure, and the boom adapter uses an industry-standard female 3/8-inch UNC brass thread. The 370 mm basket has a 104 mm diameter and the kit weighs 380 g, or 500 g with the included Windjammer 3 fitted. It also fits other shotgun mics up to 250 mm long and 19 to 25 mm in diameter. A 260 mm XLR-3M to angled XLR-3F cable, a brush, a hex key, and a sticker are included.
