Rycote Cyclone Medium Windshield Kit

The Rycote Cyclone Medium is a basket windshield system for shotgun and short shotgun microphones from 174 to 255 mm long, such as the Sennheiser MKH 416 and Schoeps CMIT 5U.

The windshield alone cuts wind noise by up to 50 dB, and a Cyclone Windjammer over it takes that past 60 dB for extreme weather.

How It Works

The asymmetric basket puts its bulk at the front, and its gray 3D-Tex covering is acoustically transparent while it breaks up the wind. Curved contours with no parallel surfaces avoid the coloration that tubular windshields add to the sound.

Inside, the mic sits in Rycote Lyre suspension webs. The Floating-Basket Suspension isolates the basket from the pole, which stops handling noise at the source. The Z-locking basket halves snap together magnetically and come apart with one hand for quick access to the mic.

The short XLR cable supplied leaves room for many longer microphones, so the Medium kit covers mics that would otherwise need a larger windshield.

Good to Know

The kit is rated for −20 to 38 °C. Brush the 3D-Tex off after light use, or rinse it and let it air dry after heavy use.
