Rycote Cyclone Small XLR Windshield Kit

The Rycote Cyclone Small XLR pairs a windshield with a suspension for small-diaphragm condenser microphones with an XLR connection.

The basket is covered in Rycote’s 3D-Tex, a durable gray material with excellent acoustic transparency that dusts off after light use and rinses clean after heavy use. The basket’s open shell of curved contours, with no straight or parallel surfaces, greatly reduces the hollow coloration that tubular windshields add to the sound. The basket’s asymmetric shape puts more of its volume in front of the microphone, so it cuts wind noise about as well as a modular windshield with a fur cover. A short XLR keeps the kit small and light, and an optional Cyclone Windjammer goes further in extreme weather.

Lyre suspension webs hold the microphone, and the Floating Basket Suspension applies the same principle between basket and pole to stop handling noise at its source. The Z-Locking system lets the basket come off or go back on with one hand and snaps it magnetically into alignment. The kit is 297 mm long overall. It fits the DPA 4017C and 4018C, Neumann KM 100 series, Schoeps CMC series, and Sennheiser MKH 50. It also fits the Sennheiser MKH 8040 and 8050 with their MZX XLR module (the Cyclone Small MZL suits them without it).
