Remote Audio BDSv4u Battery Distribution System
The Remote Audio BDSv4u powers several pieces of bag gear from one battery and switches them on and off together. It also has a built-in USB outlet and a remote port.
A complete system pairs the distribution box with a power source (usually a rechargeable battery such as an NP-1), an input cable, and output cables to each device. Every earlier BDS input and output cable works with the BDSv4u. The TA4M input uses the standard wiring, pin 1 negative and pin 4 positive.
Outputs and USB
Six outlets take Remote Audio’s locking right-angle output cables, wired center positive. One outlet can be set switched or unswitched (unswitched from the factory, so a mixer can stay on while the rest of the bag turns off). Each outlet stays dead until a mating plug goes in, which guards against short circuits. The USB port delivers a regulated 5 V at up to 2 A (10 W) for charging phones, tablets, and handheld recorders.
Protection and Low Battery Warning
The box protects against reverse polarity without a voltage drop. It also protects against short circuits and against loads over 5 A at 12 V (60 W). Each outlet handles up to 3 A. The illuminated toggle turns from green to red when the battery falls below a threshold set for lithium-ion (13 V), NiMH (11.5 V, the default), or lead acid (11 V).
Remote Port
A 6-pin port connects the RM Remote Meter or RS Remote Switch, so the BDS can sit deep in the bag while the meter shows voltage and current draw and switches the system.
Good to Know
A stainless steel clip comes attached. Keep its original screws, since longer ones can damage the box. The BDSv5 SMART is the newer model, with dual inputs and a smart battery display.
