Electro-Voice RE50B Handheld Interview Microphone

A handheld interview microphone, the Electro-Voice RE50B keeps handling, clothing, and cable noise out of a reporter’s audio.

Its omnidirectional dynamic element picks up sound from every direction, so it catches a clear answer even when the mic is not aimed precisely. A high-mass zinc acoustic chamber is shock-mounted inside a machined aluminum case to isolate the element from the hand. A four-stage pop filter blocks wind gusts, plosives, and dust.

The non-reflecting semi-gloss black finish suits on-camera work. The 150 ohm output works with 50 to 150 ohm and 250 ohm inputs. The mic is at home in press scrums, sideline reports, and on-camera standups. At 197 mm and 269 g, it is the shorter sibling of the RE50L, which puts the same design on a 242 mm handle.
