Electro-Voice RE20 Variable-D Dynamic Cardioid Microphone

The Electro-Voice RE20 dynamic cardioid broadcast mic uses a Continuously Variable-D design to keep the low end steady close up and off axis, without the bass build-up of proximity effect.

A large Acoustalloy diaphragm handles high sound pressure levels without overload. An integral blast and wind filter controls plosives without an add-on screen. The same filter shock mounts the element against vibration. A hum-bucking coil and a steel case reject magnetically induced hum near other gear.

Rejection is greatest directly behind the mic, and sound arriving off axis keeps nearly the same tone as sound on axis. A bass tilt switch rolls the low end down 4.5 dB from 400 to 100 Hz for distant miking or wherever less bass is wanted. As a dynamic mic, the RE20 needs no phantom power.

It is made for radio and podcast desks and voiceover, and it also works on kick drum and bass cabinets.
