What items may I sell?
All items that pertain to location recording for film or television are
acceptable as long as they still have practical use in the field or
fall in the collector category. Items that cannot be listed for a minimum
of $100 USD, will not be accepted for consignment sale. All items must
be in good working condition. Anything needing repair will be returned
to the seller.
All consignment equipment is sold as is with the exception
of Nagra recorders. Nagra recorders (models IVL, 4.2, IV-S, & IV-STC)
are sold with a 120-day warranty from Trew Audio to perform at
new Nagra Specifications, and therefore must be inspected and may
need servicing before sold. The expense of the service is paid
by the seller, which is deducted from the proceeds of the sale.
Therefore, no out-of-pocket expense is incurred prior to the sale.
Nagras coming in for sale are first catalogued with their accessories.
They then go to our service department for cleaning and our "Level
1" inspection and evaluation and are photographed for the
website. The seller is then notified of any service needed to achieve
Nagra specifications with current standard tape stock and of the
cost involved. The seller at that point can choose to proceed or
not. If the seller chooses to proceed, their machine is then priced
to reflect the eventual service and advertised in our newsletter
and placed on our website with a photograph. Once the sale is final,
the 15% fee plus the service costs are deducted from the final
sale price and a check for the remainder is mailed to the seller.
How do I place something
on consignment?
Give us a call and tell us what you have. We will talk with you and determine
if the items fit the "what items may I sell criteria" outlined
above. If they do, just box up the item or items with appropriate protective
packaging. Include in the box a list of all items, including serial numbers
and personal address and contact information. All items must be on site
at Trew Audio to ensure that the equipment will arrive to the buyer as
described. This increases buyer confidence and helps bring top dollar
for the equipment.
These items will be catalogued and also photographed when applicable.
The items will then be placed on the Consignment page on Trew Audio's
website. If you have specific pricing in mind please include this
also. If you do not, Trew Audio will suggest pricing and call to
confirm.
What are the most requested

What are my fees?
POLICY EFFECTIVE for items listed after March 24, 2002: For items under
$500 our listing fee is $10, plus 15% of the final selling price. We
waive the listing fee for items priced over $500. All fees are
deducted when the sale becomes final. The Seller has the option at
the time of sale to leave the proceeds on account at Trew Audio, in
which case the base commission rate is reduced to 10%. If equipment
is returned to the seller, only the $10 listing fee is due, plus any
service/repair costs. Photos are taken by Trew Audio and posted with
the listing at Trew Audio's discretion. Items listed prior to
March 25, 2002 remain on the original 10% commission rate structure.
Cleaning Policy:
Someone's trash can indeed be someone else's treasure, but all consignment
items must be clean of dirt, tape residue, etc, and in general "presentable" for
sale in order to be listed on Trew Audio's consignment program. Items
that are received that we feel are in need of cleaning will not be
listed until cleaned, and a pro-rated cleaning fee of $50 per hour
will be deducted from the proceeds of the sale.
Therefore, please inspect all items prior to sending them to Trew
Audio, and clean them as needed. For tape residue, we recommend "Goo
Gone" for most surfaces, and a mild household spray cleaner
for most dirt and grime. For a finishing touch on mixers and recorder
(for example), rub in some Pledge furniture spray wax. This will
help your items sell quicker, help convince the buyer to keep it,
and save you the expense of having us clean your equipment."
When do I get paid?
Payment for all items must be received before they are shipped to potential
buyers. However, all buyers are given 5 days from the time of receipt
to evaluate the item. This five period includes weekends and holidays.
If the item has not return shipped in the 5 day period the item is
considered sold. When the inspection period begins can vary depending
on shipping mode and location address of the buyer. You will be contacted
when the item sells and be given the option of receiving a check or
of leaving the proceeds on account to be used as a credit towards future
purchases.
How Long Does it Take?
Selling on Consignment is determined by many factors, not the least of
which is price. Trew Audio looks at original selling price, condition,
market viability and seller urgency before suggesting a price to the
seller. Although Trew Audio will offer suggestions, pricing is at the
seller's discretion.
Condition will be another determining factor. Obviously an item
that has been protected from the elements and the daily banging
from use will be more desirable. Cleaning items will improve marketability
and creates a "cared for" image to the buyer.
Timing is everything. Your buyer will come along. All working
items will sell if all of the above factors are considered and
acted on in an objective way but patience may be necessary on certain
items.
How do I make payment?
Payment must be made with cash, check or credit card. Open accounts may
never be used for consignment purchases. No consignment items will
be shipped until payment is received.
What if I am not satisfied
with my purchase?
The buyer has 5 days from time of receipt to notify Trew Audio is he
wishes to return the item for any reason for a refund. After these five
days the sale is final. Please note that the five day inspection
period includes weekends and holidays. Returns must be made promptly
and items must arrive in the same condition as when originally shipped.
Buyer pays the return shipping. Original shipping is not refundable.
Is there any warranty?
There is no warranty on consignment items with the exception of Nagra "4
Series" recorders. These are serviced to Nagra specifications and
are given a 120 day warranty.
Can I Contact the Seller?
Buyers and sellers names are kept confidential, unless both express a
desire to contact each other.
| US and Canada Consignment Program |
Do you have a Consignment
Program in the US and Canada?
Yes! We now have consignment items at our Toronto office. This is good
news for all of our customers wherever they are. Our consignment program
has always required that the items be at our store for photographing
and evaluation. Having a location in Toronto makes it more convenient
for our Canadian customers to sell and buy items through our consignment
program. For our customers inside Canada, items located in our Toronto
store can be shipped within Canada more conveniently than items shipped
internationally. Customers in Toronto are encouraged to come by our shop
and check out the items for themselves.
How can I tell if an item
is located in Canada or in the US?
All of our items are located in either our US (Nashville) or Canadian
(Toronto) locations. Items in Canada have the "Maple Leaf" icon
next to the item, and have the “CAD” next to the price to
indicate that the price is in Canadian dollars. Items located in our
US store do not have the leaf insignia, and the price is in US dollars.
Can I buy consignment items
from the Canada or US store if I am in another country?
Absolutely. Expanding the consignment program to our Toronto store increases
the choices available to everyone. Just as with our US location, consignment
items at our Toronto store can be shipped anywhere in the world.
Are Trew Audio's consignment
policies the same for the Canada and US locations?
Yes. For specifics about our consignment program, and how to buy and
sell through it, please see the above buyer and seller FAQs.
Does it matter which store
I call?
For best service, it is recommended that you call the store where the
item is located.
International
International shipping
can be more expensive. Sometimes duties, brokerage, and other fees
are added as well. While we will make reasonable efforts to keep
these costs low, international import and export fees are ultimately
not controlled by Trew Audio, and will be the expense of the recipient.
The buyer must also be aware that international shipments can be
held up in customs in unpredictable ways, and when out of the carrier's
hands it becomes impossible to absolutely guarantee delivery within
the previously specified time frame.
