Zaxcom TRX745 Digital Plug-on Transmitter
The Zaxcom TRX745 is a digital plug-on transmitter that turns a boom or handheld mic into an encrypted UHF wireless mic, with interchangeable cones for mono analog, stereo analog, AES, and AES42 mics.
Changing cones takes two screws, so one transmitter adapts to each kind of mic. It supplies 48 V phantom power to analog mics and 10 V AES42 power to digital ones. The transmitter comes with the cone chosen above, and the others are sold separately.
Recording and Timecode
The TRX745 encrypts audio as it sends it and at the same time records it, with timecode, to a microSD card inside. Recordings use Zaxcom’s MARF format, which keeps the file intact if the battery dies or the card comes out early.
ZaxNet and PowerRoll
ZaxNet is Zaxcom’s 2.4 GHz control link. From a ZRC remote or any ZaxNet device, the operator can change the frequency, output power, and input gain, start and stop the recorder, manage timecode, and format the card without touching the talent. Quality-control audio also goes out over ZaxNet, so the mic can be checked on the spot with an ERX receiver.
PowerRoll lowers the output power while the recorder is idle and raises it when recording starts, which saves battery. Output power is 25, 50, or 100 mW.
NeverClip and ZHD
NeverClip extends the dynamic range to 126 dB, or 106 dB on the stereo model. ZHD modulation fits more channels into each megahertz of spectrum, with Mono, Stereo, XR, ZHD48, and ZHD96 modes for crowded RF environments.
Frequency Bands and Power
In the United States it tunes 512.0 to 607.9 MHz, 614.1 to 615.9 MHz, and 653.1 to 662.9 MHz, and elsewhere 512 to 698 MHz. It runs on three AA batteries: alkaline, lithium, or NiMH.
