DPA 2015 Wide Cardioid Microphone
The DPA 2015, a wide cardioid pencil microphone, captures the spacious, natural sound of a whole drum kit or another group of instruments.
When a standard cardioid is not open enough on a live stage, a pair of 2015s works well as drum overheads and gives a balanced picture of the whole kit. They can sit closer to the kit than usual overheads and still capture it evenly, for a stronger signal and less bleed from the rest of the stage. The wide cardioid pattern, also called subcardioid or hypocardioid, covers a broad angle on instrument groups with complex radiation patterns. Besides drum overheads, the 2015 suits grand piano, horn sections, vibraphones, xylophones, large marimbas, and other large instruments.
The flat off-axis response gives high gain before feedback and makes bleed from nearby instruments easier to manage. A thick brass body resists corrosion and metal fatigue, and the handle and grille have a protective black chrome finish for rough handling on busy stages.
The 2015 comes as a single mic or as a stereo pair matched to within ±1.5 dB sensitivity.
