Zoom UAC-232 USB Audio Interface

Recording in 32-bit float through dual A/D converters, the Zoom UAC-232 audio interface brings two XLR/TRS combo inputs to a computer over USB with no input gain to set.

Its mic preamps are the same as the Zoom F6 field recorder’s, with an equivalent input noise of -127 dBu. Each input takes mic or line level with +48 V phantom power for condenser mics. A Guitar/Bass button switches on Hi-Z for an instrument. Two balanced TRS main outputs with a volume control feed studio monitors, the headphone output delivers 100 mW per channel, and 5-pin MIDI in and out connect drum machines, synths, and keyboards.

The Mix Control software sets routing, input and monitor levels, and loopback, which mixes playback from the computer into the input signal for a stream. Music mode routes each input to a DAW, and Streaming mode combines every input into one signal for streaming software. The Direct Monitor switch sends the inputs straight to the headphones with no latency, and Mix Control sets that feed’s volume and pan.

The UAC-232 records at sample rates from 44.1 kHz to 192 kHz, in 32-bit float or 24-bit, on Windows and Mac, and in 24-bit on iOS devices; Android is not supported. It runs on USB bus power from a computer; with a Lightning iOS device it needs separate power, such as the AD-17 AC adapter. It stands upright or lies flat, and the included flat cable fasteners strap it to a mic stand.
