Zoom M3 MicTrak On-Camera Stereo Shotgun Mic Recorder
The Zoom M3 MicTrak is an on-camera stereo shotgun mic and a recorder in one, capturing 32-bit float audio with no gain to set.
Its supercardioid mid mic and bidirectional side mic give three modes: mono for dialogue, 90-degree stereo for an accurate image, and 120-degree stereo for ambience and sound effects. The M3 also saves a Mid-Side RAW backup file, and the M3 Edit & Play software adjusts its stereo width and normalizes the files after the shoot.
Its shock mount fits a camera’s hot shoe and keeps handling noise to a minimum, and a 3.5 mm line output sends a backup to the camera for syncing audio to video. A 3.5 mm headphone output monitors the recording, and over USB-C the M3 works as a USB mic with a computer, iOS, or Android device.
It records to microSD cards up to 1 TB and runs about 12 hours on two AA alkaline batteries, which are not included.
