Zoom LiveTrak L-12 Digital Mixer/Recorder
The Zoom LiveTrak L-12 mixes a live performance while it records 12 channels to an SD card, and its digital mixer gives the players five custom headphone mixes.
Eight mono channels take XLR or 1/4-inch plugs through combo inputs, each with one-knob compression and gain up to +60 dB, and an equivalent input noise of -128 dBu. Channels 1 and 2 switch to Hi-Z for guitar or bass, and channels 3 to 8 have a 26 dB pad. Phantom power at +48 V switches on in two groups, channels 1 to 4 and channels 5 to 8. Two stereo channels take 1/4-inch or RCA line inputs for keyboards and other sources.
Every channel has a fader, a mute button, a 3-band EQ with a sweepable mid from 100 Hz to 8 kHz, and a low-cut filter, and 16 delay and reverb effects have adjustable parameters. Five powered headphone outputs each carry their own mix, output A also has balanced TRS outputs for stage monitors, and the main outputs are XLR. Nine scenes save fader positions, EQ, pan, mutes, and more.
The L-12 records 14 tracks at 44.1 or 48 kHz, or 12 at 96 kHz, as WAV files to SD cards up to 1 TB. Tracks are recorded before EQ and effects, so they can be remixed on board or in a DAW. Auto-record starts at a set level and keeps up to two seconds from before it started, and a built-in slate mic and metronome help in the session. Effects, EQ, overdub, the audio interface, fader modes, and the stereo mix tracks are not available at 96 kHz.
Over USB it is a 14-in/4-out audio interface, and it works with iOS devices through Apple’s Lightning to USB Camera Adapter. It can record to a computer and an SD card at the same time at up to 48 kHz. A USB host port copies projects to a flash drive, and card reader mode transfers files to a computer. The L-12 takes the FS01 footswitch and runs on the included AD-19 AC adapter.
