Sennheiser HD 490 PRO Open-Back Reference Headphones

The Sennheiser HD 490 PRO is an open-back reference headphone for music production, with two sets of ear pads: one for mixing and one for producing.

The open-back design gives a wide, three-dimensional soundstage and precise placement of every source, so pans and clashing frequencies are easy to find. Sennheiser’s Open-frame Architecture cuts distortion and resonance, and a low-frequency cylinder behind each driver keeps the low end full and clearly defined.

The headphones avoid pressure points, and the open mesh covers let air through, so long sessions stay comfortable. The pads are washable and replaceable. The detachable cable plugs into either earcup. Braille markings on the earcups tell left from right by touch, and grooves in the pads make room for glasses. It is engineered in Germany and assembled by hand in Romania.

The HD 490 PRO Plus adds a 3 m cable, an extra headband pad, a case, and Dear Reality’s dearVR MIX-SE plugin, which turns a DAW into a virtual mixing room.
