RODE VideoMic GO II Lightweight Directional Microphone
The RODE VideoMic GO II is a compact shotgun microphone that records to a camera over 3.5mm TRS and to mobile devices and computers over USB.
Annular line tube technology, the same as in the VideoMic NTG, makes it highly directional, so it focuses on what it points at while reducing background noise. It weighs 33 grams and runs off plug-in power from the connected device. With no internal battery, it never needs charging.
HELIX Isolation Mount
The HELIX mount was developed for this microphone and protects it from knocks, bumps, and handling noise. It has cable management slots and an attachment for a camera. A sliding rail moves the mic back to keep it out of the frame with an ultra-wide lens, or forward when it blocks a camera’s viewfinder. A 3/8″ thread under the cold shoe mount takes boom arms such as the RODE PSA1 and PSA1+, boompoles, tripods such as the Tripod 2, and microphone stands. A thread adapter fits the mount to any of these that needs one.
Camera and USB Modes
On a camera, it is plug and go, with no controls or switches, and the camera’s manual gain sets the level. USB mode turns the 3.5mm output into a headphone output for monitoring and playback, and a Level Peak Warning LED alerts you to loud peaks. The input level and headphone volume adjust from the connected device or the RODE Central app, which also turns on a high-pass filter, high-frequency boost, or pad. The pad works only in USB mode.
Good to Know
USB cables are sold separately. USB-C devices take the RODE SC16, SC17, or SC18, and iOS devices with a Lightning port take the SC15 or SC19, since standard USB-C to Lightning cables do not work. The supplied foam windshield handles moderate wind noise and plosives, and the RODE WS12 is for high wind outdoors.
