Lectrosonics SSM Micro Belt-Pack UHF Transmitter
Made to hide in costuming for theater and other productions, the Lectrosonics SSM micro belt-pack transmitter matches the features and performance of the full-size Digital Hybrid Wireless models.
It weighs 65 grams with its battery and measures 58 by 38 by 14 mm. A rechargeable LB-50 lithium-ion battery runs it for about 6 hours per charge and changes quickly, and RF power is 25 or 50 mW.
Frequency Bands
Trew Audio carries the SSM in two bands: A1 (470.100 to 537.575 MHz) and B1 (537.600 to 607.950 MHz). Frequencies step in 100 or 25 kHz increments across up to 76.7 MHz, for up to 3072 frequencies over three standard Lectrosonics blocks.
Input and Audio
The LEMO 00 3-pin input, common in theater, has a threaded collar and takes mic or line signals through servo bias circuitry, with gain in 1 dB steps. The preamp’s limiter cleanly handles peaks more than 30 dB above full modulation. Bias voltage and input impedance are set in the menu, which also holds presets for DPA, Countryman B6 and E6, Sanken COS-11, and Sennheiser MKE 1 and MKE 2 lavaliers. Digital Hybrid Wireless gives compandor-free audio in Nu Hybrid mode, and compatibility modes work with Lectrosonics Mode 3 and IFB receivers.
Build and Setup
The machined aluminum housing has an ultra-hard black electroless nickel finish (ebENi), and the hinged stainless steel battery door latches so it cannot be jarred open. The hardened stainless steel belt clip attaches or comes off without tools. A backlit LCD shows settings, an IR port next to the antenna copies them from IR-enabled receivers, and a USB port takes firmware updates. Audio-coupled remote control changes frequency, level, and sleep settings from the RM remote or a smartphone app.
Good to Know
The SSM works with Lectrosonics receivers including the UCR411A, the SR Series, the L Series, and the Venue Series. Sweat and other moisture damage the SSM, so keep it wrapped or fitted with the optional SSMCVR silicone cover.
