Lectrosonics DBu Digital Belt-Pack Transmitter

The Lectrosonics DBu, a digital belt-pack transmitter, runs on two AA batteries and protects its signal with AES 256-CTR encryption.

It tunes from 470.100 to 607.950 MHz in 25 kHz steps, with coarse and fine tuning, and puts out 10, 25, or 50 mW of RF power. Audio is converted at 24 bits and 48 kHz.

The preamp takes any lavalier mic, a dynamic mic, or a line-level source through a locking TA5F input. Input gain adjusts over 44 dB in 1 dB steps to match the source exactly, and a DSP-controlled limiter with a 30 dB range handles peaks. Two bicolor LEDs on the top panel show the audio level from -20 dB to the onset of limiting.

The top panel also holds the antenna jack and a programmable switch that can be set to work as a mute switch, a power switch, or neither. Setup runs through a backlit LCD and membrane switches, and the IR port speeds it up. Firmware updates go through the side-panel USB port with a standard micro USB cable.

The housing is solid machined aluminum with a hard black electroless nickel finish. The hinged aluminum battery door latches securely and stays shut even if the transmitter is dropped. A stainless spring wire belt clip comes fitted, and a spring-loaded clip is an option. Moisture, including sweat, damages the transmitter, so keep it in a plastic bag or other protection.
