DPA 4560 CORE Binaural Headset Microphone

The DPA 4560 CORE is a binaural headset microphone: a stereo pair of 4060 CORE miniature omni mics on two ear hooks, for recording sound as the wearer hears it.

The two 4060s are hand-picked as a pair, matched in sensitivity within ±1.5 dB. The lightweight, flexible headset fits any ear size and head shape, mounts securely, and is hardly visible. Foam windscreens on the mics hold them in place in the ear and damp some wind noise.

Binaural Recording

Binaural recording places two omnidirectional mics close together, where a listener’s ears would be, so playback puts the listener in the recordist’s position, in 3D. Standard stereo uses cardioid mics spaced further apart. Film recordists use binaural recordings for atmospheres, and podcasts and online media use them for immersive sound.

The Microphones

The 4060’s accurate omni pattern needs no aiming. The mics handle up to 134 dB SPL before clipping and suit remote or quiet sources where a good balance of signal and noise matters. Their MicroDot connector fits most professional wireless systems through DPA’s adapters.
