Cinela OSIX Suspension

A dedicated boom pole mount for work indoors and out, each Cinela OSIX suspension holds one microphone or stereo pair on crossed isolators.

The OSIX was the first product Cinela made, released in 2006 on a principle they patented in 2005. In place of stretched rubber bands, it adapts the spring industry’s wire-form technique to microphone isolators. Today’s isolators are unbreakable plastic. Each model is made for its microphone, balancing a firm hold on the microphone against the lowest handling noise.

Isolators

Four isolator shapes (A, B, C, and D) and three stiffness grades (2, 3, and 4), on cradles in three lengths, match each model to the size and weight of its microphone. The crossed isolators also suit two-body MS pairs better than elliptical ones, and many of Cinela’s MS windshield modules are OSIX types. Spare isolator kits are sold separately.

Stereo and Camera Models

The OSIX 2MS carries a Schoeps MS pair inside a LEONARD LEO-20-MS windscreen (sold separately), on a two-axis swivel with a 5-pin male XLR output. The ORTF models hold an ORTF pair of Schoeps CCM 4 or Sennheiser MKH 8040 microphones on a two-axis swivel, and the ORTF-MSTC holds the one-piece Schoeps ORTF MSTC with a 5-pin XLR extension. The CAM versions of the OSIX 2, OSIX 2MS, and ORTF-CCM mount on a camera’s hot shoe.

Swivel and Wiring

The OSIX has had the SW-UL-A toothed swivel since 2018, and the OSIX 3-418 comes with the two-axis SW-UL-D swivel for full freedom between the microphone and the boom. The XLR cable is built into the suspension. Cinela can fit the cable with their RF option, a filter that gives more protection against interference from digital transmitters.

Good to Know

The OSIX 2 and OSIX 2-4017B take foam or fur windscreens. The OSIX 1-8060 and OSIX 1-2017 work best with foam or a very light fur, and the OSIX 1-H is made to carry a LEONARD windscreen with its fur. The OSIX 3-60 fits the MKH 60 only, since the MKH 70 is too long and heavy. The microphone is not included.
