Cinela LEONARD Windscreen

The Cinela LEONARD is a ball-shaped windscreen for microphones without an interference tube, made in sizes for 20, 22, and 25 mm microphones and for a Schoeps MS pair.

Cinela released the LEONARD in 2011. As on any windscreen for a cardioid or hypercardioid microphone, the ball forms a cavity around the capsule that evens out the pressure on both sides of the diaphragm. A semi-rigid, unbreakable cage carries a 3D fabric of chosen porosity for indoor work, the same fabric as on the ZEPHYX, PIANO, and PIANISSIMO. Outdoors, a removable synthetic fur goes over it. The front part of the fabric comes off.

At 10 cm across without its fur, the LEONARD is much smaller than Cinela’s large windshields. Its size balances wind protection against acoustic transparency, so it costs little sound quality for the wind protection it gives.

Sizes

The LEO-20 fits the Schoeps CMC 6 and any microphone 20.0 to 20.1 mm across, and works on the OSIX 2. The LEO-22 a fits the Neumann KM 184/185 (21.8 mm). The LEO-22 b fits the KMA with a removable capsule (22.1 mm). Both work on the OSIX 1-H. The LEO-25 fits the Sennheiser MKH 40/50 (25 mm) on the OSIX 3 or the E-OSIX for MKH 40/50 Hard. The LEO-20-MS covers a Schoeps MS pair of a CMC 6 and a CCM 8 and works only with the OSIX 2MS suspension. The ORTF suspensions for Schoeps CCM 4 and Sennheiser MKH 8040 pairs take two LEO-20 or two LEO-25 balls, with or without fur.

With or Without Fur

Each size comes with its fur or without it, and the LEO-FUR on its own fits every LEONARD ball, to add a fur later or replace one.
