Cinela E-OSIX Suspension
The Cinela E-OSIX is a boom pole suspension that holds the microphone on elliptical isolators, made in versions matched to particular microphones.
Cinela released the E-OSIX in 2014, alongside their PIANISSIMO windshield. The E stands for the elliptical isolators, which are glued in place, where the older OSIX uses crossed isolators that screw on. Each suspension is built from a module, a cable, a swivel, and a fixing knob, and the PIANISSIMO and PIANO windshields use the same module sizes. Isolators come in five hardness grades, chosen for each microphone.
Soft and Hard Versions
Most models come in two versions. The Soft version suits quiet indoor work with a foam windscreen, and the Hard version holds up outdoors, where a heavier windscreen loads the front of the microphone. The MKH 416 model comes only in a Hard version, made for indoor use with foam. The MiniCMIT, KMIT, and DPA 4017C models are made for a foam windscreen and no fur.
Swivel and Wiring
Since 2018 every E-OSIX has had the SW-UL-B toothed swivel, whose base turns about 90 degrees either way to place the XLR or a plug-on transmitter. The XLR wiring is built into the suspension. Cinela can fit the cable with their RF option, a filter that gives more protection against interference from digital transmitters.
Good to Know
Outdoors, use the OSIX 1-H for a Neumann KM 184/185 or KMA under a LEONARD windscreen with fur. For a Schoeps MiniCMIT or KMIT outdoors, use the COSI or PIANISSIMO windshield. A few microphones, such as the classic Schoeps CMC 6 and the Sennheiser MKH 8060, pick up more midrange vibration on elliptical isolators, and the OSIX suits them better. The microphone is not included.
