Bubblebee Industries The Cable Saver

The Bubblebee Industries Cable Saver is a small, flexible strain relief that stops cable noise from traveling up a lavalier’s cable to the microphone.

Slide it onto the cable about 10 to 12 cm (4 to 5 in) below the capsule, wrap the cable around it four or five times, and feed the cable back through the hole. Wound on like this, it isolates the mic from the handling and clothing noise that runs along the cable, and it takes the strain off the cable if a transmitter drops or the cable snags. It needs no tools and no change to the microphone, and it comes off to move to another lav.

One size fits most lav cables, including Sanken, Sennheiser, DPA, and Countryman models; the stiff cable of the Sennheiser MKE 2 is the exception. Each Cable Saver measures 2.5 × 0.5 cm (1 × 0.2 in), and each pack holds four in black, white, or beige to blend with the cable.
