Trew Audio is proud to present a detailed look at the 633, Sound Devices’ latest field production mixer. Join Jesse Santoyo and Chris Frasco as they dive deep into this exciting new product, covering everything from its basic layout to some intricacies of the menu system. The Sound Devices 633 is currently in stock at all Trew Audio locations and available for purchase online.
The Sound Devices 633 is a 6-input / 6-output mixer with an integrated 10-track recorder. It can capture all of its six inputs, the L/R mix, and the Aux 1 & 2 channels simultaneously in resolutions up to 24-bit / 48 kHz. Recording six tracks, it can extend up to 88.2, 96, or 192 kHz sampling rates.
Quad Powering, a new feature from Sound Devices, allows the 633 to be simultaneously powered by up to four different sources – two removable 7.2V L-type lithum-ion cells, six AA batteries, or an external DC power supply. PowerSafe Circuitry – also new – employs a 10-second internal power reserve to save your files and safely close down all operations in the event that the 633 loses power.
The front panel features dedicated trim, fader, and variable pan knobs for its three XLR mic/line inputs as well as small faders for its three additional line inputs. Using the PFL toggles, you can apply a high-pass filter and an input limiter to each channel. Phantom power can also be applied to the XLR inputs.
The Sound Devices 633 has three XLR mic/line inputs and three TA3 line inputs. The first XLR input can be switched to accommodate two channels of AES3 or AES42 digital audio. On the opposite side of the unit, an 1/8” stereo mini return also allows you to monitor audio from an external source.
The 633’s output section features XLR left/right main outputs, which can be switched between mic and line level. The Aux 1 & 2 outputs are on TA3 connectors, each of which can be switched to a 2-channel AES3 output for a total of four digital output channels. The Aux 3 & 4 channels output on an 1/8” stereo mini jack, but do not route to the unit’s recorder.
Additional connections on the Sound Devices 633 include a 1/4″ headphone output, a 5-pin LEMO timecode in/out, and a 4-pin Hirose power connector. The unit measures 2.2″ high, 9.4″ wide, and 5.6″ deep – weighing 2.56 lbs without batteries installed.
The new Sound Devices 633 is already in stock at all Trew Audio locations and is also available for purchase online. We have a limited number, so act fast!
