As we looked back over 2009 we found several things to be happy about. NAB2009 brought out a few new products of interest and the Sound Devices 552 debuted to a waiting crowd. We worked to bring some clarity to the complex and ever changing world of digital workflows with our Sound for Picture session in Toronto. Our Trew Audio family grew and changed a little and we lent some aid to a couple of worthy causes.
In a year of cost cutting and lean living, we took our guerilla camera crew to sniff out the new and notable items for you at NAB 2009. We hope we provided a bit of info about items you would find interesting. We’ll head back this year to try again. Feel free to drop us a line about the things you really want to see.
Sound Devices releases the 552
The most anticipated product of the year was certainly the new Sound Devices 552 Mixer. Orders for it began stacking up as soon as Sound Devices released the news in September and have remained steady. As an aside, there are now several great 442s available in our consignment store!
Toronto Workflow audio files
Tyler and team Toronto dreamed up and produced a very successful Sound for Picture Workflow Session last June. We recorded the evening and made the audio files available on our site.
Trew Additions and Mergers
Josh Harper and wife Carla had baby boy Issac on November 22. He weighed 8 lbs. 8 oz. and was 22 inches long.
Sandy Dunn and Jasen Hamilton quietly got married last September. They invited some friends over for a routine cookout (no hint of an impending ceremony) and, with friends present, had a minister perform their vows. Then they took a fabulous honeymoon in Hawaii. Here’s the happy couple enjoying a luau in Waikiki.
Movember (the month formerly known as November) is a moustache growing charity event held during November each year that raises funds and awareness for men’s health. The guys in Toronto took the challenge very seriously as you can see. Not sure how much money they raised, but they inspired the guys in Nashville to vow to follow suit this year.
Give a little, get a lot
Each year Trew Audio donates equipment to various deserving groups and organizations. Our plan this year was to cover some of the events and spread the word about these worthy causes a bit as they deserve attention.
“Country Ride and Roll” for SaddleUp – Nashville, TN USA
Recently Trew Audio’s Rental department supplied a playback system for use during Saddle Up’s Country Ride & Roll annual fund raiser where three esteemed Nashville singer/songwriters, Barry Dean, Wynn Varble and Rodney Clawson, provided the entertainment to a crowd of Saddle Up patrons. “Our event was a great success in large part due to the talents and broad appeal of such fine songwriters.” Cheryl Scutt, Executive Director of Saddle Up.
Saddle Up! provides a recreational therapeutic horseback riding program to Middle Tennessee children and youth, ages 4 to 18, with more than 40 types of documented disabilities. As the rider continuously contracts and relaxes muscles to re-balance while on horseback, they improve their overall balance, strength and flexibility.
Ride for Karen – Markum, ON Canada
In September, Trew Audio Toronto donated walkies to the organizers of the Ride for Karen, an annual cycling event which raises money for charities that help people living with cancer and those who care for them. In the last seven years the Ride for Karen has raised almost $1 million towards building and supporting cancer care facilities and sending kids with cancer to camp.
