Convert Your Modular Suspension to Rycote’s New Lyre Suspension System

Rycote’s new Lyre system used on the InVision mount is now available as an upgrade for previous models of Rycote’s Modular suspensions. New Rycote modular suspension kits now include Lyre webs, thus, eliminating the need for replacement clips, or O rings. The Lyre suspension is based on a clip technology built in to the Lyre web configuration. Lyre webs are constructed of Dupont Hytrel-- a thermoplastic with polymer elastomers which has the strength of plastic combined with the elasticity of rubber. The Lyre web is virtually indestructible yet bounces back to its normal shape even after enduring eye-watering knots and/or arctic temperatures. This material and the Lyre shape have a superior rating for low frequency transmission when compared to traditional rubber mounts.

There are 2 basic upgrade choices: Lyre webs along with a suspension-appropriate mic connector (i.e. a Connbox or XLR mic tail); or a set of Lyres only.

The upgrade kit for small and medium Modular suspensions includes (2) Universal Lyres, (2) MKH Lyres and a CB-1 Connbox (hardwired). This gives you the option of installing the Universal Lyres, which will work even with the MKH series, or the MKH Lyres. The MKH Lyres are specifically shaped for the MKH series of microphones. The Connbox is now standard with new Modular suspension kits and is a wonderful method for securing the microphone cable and providing strain relief.

The upgrade kit for the large Modular suspension includes (2) Universal Lyres, (2) MKH Lyres and a 3 pin XLR to XLR microphone tail since the Connbox does not fit on the larger suspension units. Also, the Lyres for the larger Modular kit are grey in color and more rigid than those for the small and medium kits in order to accommodate larger mics. Either of these kits gives you all items now included with new Rycote Modular suspension kits.

The second choice is for a set (2) of only the Universal Lyres or the MKH Lyres specific to your size Modular suspension system. These arrive ready for installation onto your suspension bar complete with Lyre Foot Adapters and hexhead screws. Use the hexhead key supplied with your original Modular suspension kit to fasten your new lyres to the suspension bar. Lyre sets for the large Modular suspension units are grey and more rigid to accommodate the larger mics used with this suspension.

Installation of either upgrade option is very simple as the Lyres and the Connbox mount to existing threaded holes in your suspension bar. With these upgrades, Rycote is providing a great opportunity to acquire the latest suspension technology for your Modular suspension system at a very reasonable price.
