Remote Audio Juicer
The "JUICER" series of isolation cables by Remote Audio.
The Remote Audio Juicer cable has two uses: First, it isolates the power source from the device being powered, interrupting potential noise-causing power loops. Second, the Juicer provides a regulated output of 15VDC (which is particularly important for the popular Cooper 106 and 108 mixers) even when the battery or power supply feeding it goes as low as 9VDC.
Most modern equipment used in field audio today has a relatively wide operating voltage range, typically between 10VDC and 15VDC. If your power supply output voltage is within this range, then the Juicer is not required as a voltage regulator. However…
A word about the popular Cooper 106 and 108 mixers and their voltage requirements: The still commonly used Cooper 106 and 108 mixers require a minimum of 14VDC to produce a full 48V phantom power for condenser microphones (otherwise resulting in premature microphone clipping and excessive microphone self-noise). Therefore, when using a 12VDC power supply or battery to power these Cooper mixers, the Juicer cable, which outputs 15VDC, is highly recommended. When the input voltage of the Cooper 106 and 108 mixers is at least 14VDC, full performance specs are achieved, and there is no advantage or disadvantage of higher voltages such as 18VDC or 24VDC.
A word about power system noise. Powering multiple pieces of equipment with a single power source is becoming more and more common for professional field audio systems. Depending on the internal power supplies of audio equipment, and how the audio inputs and outputs of these various devices are connected to each other, loops can occur that create audible noise in the audio signals. The Remote Audio Juicer cable can interrupt these power loops by isolating the power source from the device being powered, thus eliminating the noise caused by sharing a single power supply.
The maximum capacity of the Juicer cable is 30W (2A @ 15V). It is generally not recommended to power more than one device with each Juicer cable.
