Recently
a customer of ours came up with the following setup for his Sound Devices
442.
Believe it or not, he had used up both the XLR main outs and the TA3F
main outs.
He still needed to feed three separate headphones with a monitor mix.
Since each headphone needed to have its own level control, he could not use
a Y-cable coming out of the headphone jack.
He solved this problem by using the Sound Devices HX-3 Headphone
Amplifier.
He
fed the –10dB tape out on the 442, available on either an 1/8” or TA3F
jack, to the –10dB stereo input on the HX-3, available on either 1/8”
or ¼” jacks.
This gave him 3 channels with individual level control to three ¼”
headphone jacks.
The HX-3, accepts a voltage range of 5-17 VDC, which allows it to be
powered from a BDS.
