Metacorder

Metacorder is a program that transforms a Mac computer operating with OS X into a powerful but economical multitrack recorder, capable of up to 24 tracks. Using Mac's resident recording program, Core Audio, Metacorder has proven to be very stable and reliable. A variety of audio input devices can be used such as the Mackie Onyx mixer series with FireWire card or the MOTU Traveler portable audio interface. Trew Audio has assembled complete Metacorder packages (including new Mac iBook or PowerBook computers) to help you chose a system that fits you best.

Metacorder allows recording to up to four drives: Simultaneously to a primary and a secondary hard drive (or DVD-RAM) plus mirroring from the primary hard drive to removable media such as CD or DVD-R.

Metacorder also allows the user to enter text called "metadata" directly into the recording. The text information includes ROLL NUMBER, SCENE, TAKE, and NOTES information that are attached to the recorded files to aid in editing. And, Metacorder compiles this text to create a sound report that is stored along with the recording as a PDF that post production can view or print. Of course, this same PDF file can be printed by you on the set, on real paper, complete with all of the information commonly used with traditional handwritten sound reports!

Below is a list of recommended complete packages that include a combination of the Metacorder registered software and licensed dongle, Apple G4 PowerBook or iBook, Mackie Onyx 1620 mixer or MOTU Traveler.
